Open Clasp Theatre Company presents
Rattle & Roll

Thursday 11 March
7.30pm
Tickets £8.50 / £6 (conc)

Open Clasp return with their unique mix of outrageous comedy and thought-provoking drama.

Four women are trying to jump track. A new name, street and a settee mean a new start, a way out, and a past left behind. However a missing wheelie bin, a broken promise and mother’s day throw the women back on familiar ground, but this time they are on a collision course with a runaway train. Addressing issues including sexual exploitation, adoption and homelessness; Rattle & Roll is a story about chaos, the order behind it, and the strengths of those women trying to survive it.

A Family Show with Storytelling, Music and Painting on stage.

Doon the Waggonway is a celebration of the lives of people living and working in the industrial North East, exploring their roots and culture in music, stories and painting.

Devised and performed by Ken Patterson, Richard Scott and Chris Bostock, the show offers a wonderful selection of traditional and new songs interlaced with stories ancient and modern for family audiences, reflecting the lives of the people who lived, worked and travelled near where you live.

Discovering something of our ancestors is often a delight - and that’s just what we want to share with you ‘doon the waggonway’ of history.

Tom Kelly + The Customs House Present
Talking Tom

Friday 26 March
7.30pm
Tickets £8.50 / £6 (conc)

A series of hilarious monologues from North East playwright Tom Kelly:

Elsie looks at a seemingly sweet 77 year old spinster Elsie, a lovely granny figure on the outside but what about inside? Is she as sweet as she seems?

Neighbourhood Watch is the ultimate Neighbourhood Watcher; he is on duty twenty four hours a day… Watching you!

Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the nursing home… Elsie is back in Elsie Rides Again!

The Club Doorman, keeps the door at a CIU-affiliated working men’s club. He knows everyone’s business from committee, club organist to club members but does he know what he is doing to his family?

There will also be readings by the show’s writer Tom Kelly

Sea Legs Puppet Theatre presents
Oscar Wilde’s
The Selfish Giant

Tuesday 30 March + Wednesday 31 March
10.30am + 1.30pm
Tickets £4
(1 free teacher for every 10 pupils)

The Selfish Giant owns a beautiful garden, in which children love to play. One day he takes offence at the children, and builds a wall to keep them out. Because of this, the garden is condemned to perpetual winter and the Selfish Giant’s only visitors are Lady Snow and her friends. One morning he hears the most beautiful music coming from his bedroom window and is delighted with the sight that greets him. Set in a magnificent steel sculpted garden, the story is told using beautifully crafted puppets, a brilliant musical sound track and superb storytelling.

Sunderland five-piece Ashes Of Iron are good honest rockers with a real commercial edge, and cite Kyuss, QOTSA and Alice in Chains as influences. But they’re far more energetic and drive harder than their stoner rock image would imply.
