Oxclose Music Project

(In association with Oxclose and District Young Peoples Project)

Oxclose Music Project – Based in Oxclose Community School Dilston Close Oxclose Washington and The Arts Centre Washington, Biddick Lane Fatfield.

Part of Oxclose & District Young Peoples Project.

The project runs Monday, Tuesday and Friday evenings 18:30 to 21:30 or 6:30PM to 9:30PM in old money, 15:00 to 18:00 on Sundays @ Arts Centre Washington.

We work with young people from Washington aged 13 to 19 to enable them to fulfill their musical aspirations.

We provide support, equipment and practicing facilities that allow young people to form their own bands, record their own music and perform “live” to their peers and others.

We are now in our 19th year and still going strong with our last performance at Springwell Village Hall drawing nearly 200 people.

The project began in early 1990 when Sean Taylor went back to his old school (Oxclose Community School) on a work placement and discovered that there were a lot of young people wanting to participate in music but had nowhere to practice.

So with the help of Lynne King the head of music at the time and the Deputy Head Ken Tonge (a leading member of the Davy Lamp Folk Club with whom we are still strongly connected) access to the classrooms and the music departments equipment was granted.

The rest as they say is history.
